Plasma welding, also called plasma arc welding (PAW), is a process for fusing metal together. It is a similar process to gas tungsten arc welding in that both form an electric arc between the piece and an electrode. Plasma welding differs from gas tungsten arc welding in the positioning of the electrode, which allows the arc of plasma to become separated from the shielding gas. As a result, the plasma moves through a small nozzle that causes a constriction, pushing the plasma through an orifice at a high velocity.
Plasma welding is extremely effective in a number of applications. At Master Metal Fabrication, we have experienced welders who can determine which process of welding to use for each individual project we take on, which helps ensure high-quality results every time.
